The next Brisbane Functional Group (BFG) is meeting on 15th September, with two talks on Scala.
Firstly Kristian Domagala give us an introduction to Scala:
"In this talk, I will give an introduction to the Scala programming language, including basic syntax, language features, and its relation to Java. I will also show how you can use its functional programming capabilities and static type system to improve the quality and maintainability of your code."
Next up, Tom Adams gives us an overview of building a simple web app using sbt, Scalaz 4, Slinky and Scala Query.

ANN: Melbourne Scala User Group Meeting - Monday 24 August
The Melbourne Scala User Group meets tonight. Presentations on the menu are:
- Actors. What are they and how do they work?
- Introduction to the Lift web framework.
- Scala application development. Bringing together SBT, JGit, JSON and mixed Java/Scala dependencies.
